Troop Meetings – Mondays, 7-8:30PM

Scoutmaster's Corner

Posted on Apr 30 2016 - 3:43pm

Good afternoon Troop 845,

April was a fast paced month for the Troop. We were involved in the Aquia District Spring Camporee, scout skill training, and Philmont training.

Our Scouts did extremely well at the Camporee. They formed three patrols of 5-7 Scouts and enjoyed themselves participating in the patrol competition, which consisted of a series of stations set-up to challenge the patrols with teambuilding activities.

During this month, we saw several Scouts advance to the Scout (Michael Ramos) and First Class ranks (Ethan, Ian, and Sean). Other Scouts also continued working on rank requirements and will be ready for advancement next month.

This Monday, 2 May, representatives of the Local Chapter of the Order of the Arrow (OA) will be visiting our troop to hold an OA Call Out ceremony for the four Scouts recently elected to the Order. To complete their induction into the Order, these Scouts must also participate in an OA Ordeal. The next Ordeal is scheduled for 6-8 May. Registration information can be found on the troop website. Registration closes on 4 May.

COME ONE, COME ALL. In support of our charter organization, Summit Presbyterian Church, we plan to support their annual Clean Up event on Sat, 7 May (Time: TBD). The outdoor sanctuary is in need of attention. We could use your help! If you have a power sander, please bring it along to assist in resurfacing the wooden beaches.

There is still time to register for the May campout at Seneca Rocks, 20-22 May. Registration closes on 10 May. Departure time on Friday, 20 May is 3 PM. We could use some additional adult drivers to support the transportation of Scouts to/from the campsite. On Sat, our Philmont-bound Scouts will go on an extended 8-10 mile hike and the other Scouts will conduct a 5-mile hike (rank requirement) and cook on the trail (Cooking MB requirement). The Troop will join Crew 84 on Sunday for some Spelunking (caving) training.

Have an enjoyable weekend!

Yours in Scouting,
SM Rodriguez
